University of Perpetual Help System Dalta is determined to end its misfortunes in the cheerleading championships when Season 99 National Collegiate Athletic Association stages the popular event on Wednesday, June 19, at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.
After four consecutive bridesmaid finishes, the Altas Perpsquad is looking for an ending that had eluded the Las Piñas-based school – a champion squad once again.
Having trained long and hard – not to mention the sacrifices they made — coach Ruffa Rosario expressed confidence they can pull it off this time.
Last year, Rosario said she had to make do with 13 rookies although most of them performed beyond expectations.
Toughened by that runner-up finish and inspired by the school’s 9 championships, including the men’s volleyball, Rosario said they are all excited to perform in front of their adoring supporters.
During their last training session, they had executed their routines and stunts with grace, power and precision – thanks to their mental training.
“Now we are all OK with our mental training, not like last season,” said Rosario, who is looking to lead the Dr./BGen. Antonio Tamayo-owned institution toits 10th cheerdance title.
“What I told them is that there is no more next round in the cheerleading competition. It’s a one-day tournament. If we lose now, our chance to gain revenge will be next season. It’s like competing in track and field.”
Despite their past failures, Altas Perpsquad still holds the most number of titles in the CLC before the Arellano Chiefsquad took over and dominated the event.
Last year, Arellano Chiefs Squad collected 245.5 points against Perpetual’]s 227.5 points.
The Mapua Cheering Cardinals will perform first followed by the Arellano Chiefsquad, LPU Pirates Pep Squad, Golden Stags Cheerleading Squad, Letran Cheering Squad, Altas Perpsquad, San Beda Red Corps, JRU Pep Squad, EAC Generals Pep Squad and Benilde Blazers Pep Squad.
