Italian Angiolino Frigoni has been tapped as the new head coach of the Philippine men’s national volleyball team.
The development was reported on Saturday, June 22, as the Italian mentor is set to replace Brazilian Sergio Veloso at the touchline.
Veloso, who calls the shot for Ateneo in the UAAP, was tasked to lead the Nationals ahead of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games right up to their last stint together in the AVC Challenge Cup for Men in Bahrain.
There, Alas Pilipinas settled for another 10th place finish with a lone win to its name.
Veloso, though, will continue his work in Philippine volleyball for its grassroots program.
The two-time Olympic coach will inherit a squad composed of young and veteran players captained by Marck Espejo along with National University setter Owa Retemar and two-time UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez.
