Fil-American pugilist DJ Zamora made his debut fight under Top Rank Promotions worth remembering after scoring a unanimous win over Mexican Jose Antonio Meza in their super featherweight collision at the Fontainebleau Resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend.
Zamora, 21, dominated his rival to earn the nod of the three judges — 80-72, 80-72, 79-73 – all in his favor.
The win kept his clean record at 13-0-0 while handing Meza his 10th defeat against 9 wins.
His impressive win earned him praise from no less than Paris Games-bound Eumir Marcial, who took time to applaud Zamora on his social media post.
“Viva Filipino! Congratulations on the W,” Marcial wrote.
The Nevada native failed to knock Meza down during the fight but his rapid-fire punches proved enough to score repeatedly and wow the crowd.
Zamora, who was once a student of the flamboyant Floyd Mayweather’s summer camp in 2011, hopes his win would be his ticket to stardom.
During that summer camp, Mayweather boasted that Zamora has great future, saying: “This is my champ and this is the future.”
The Bob Arum-founded promotions is home to current Filipino prized fighters including Jerwin Ancajas (super flyweight), Genesis Servania (featherweight) and Rio Olympian Charly Suarez (super featherweight) and previously bannered by boxing icons in the likes of Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire.
Zamora signed a long-term contract with Top Rank Boxing a few days before his clash against Meza.
