LUCENA CITY – College of St. Benilde stars Mycah Go and Jessa Dorog are set to banner the newly-formed Quezon Tangerines that will see action in the Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association League (MPVA) Season 2 which opens in August.
Fresh from helping the Lady Blazers complete an NCAA treble via an amazing 40-game winning streak, Go, Dorog and Weilyn Estoque and the team itself are welcome additions to the fledgling league.
The team will be handled by CSB coach Jerry Yee, who despite the presence of several CSB and upcoming stars in the squad is not promising anything to the province’s supporters.
What he vowed to instill into the team is the winning culture which he has been advocating since his days at the Hope Christian High School.
“We’ll bring winning culture. Hindi ko sinasabing winning all the games, ganun lang,” said Yee during team’s press conference held at Quezon Provincial Capitol Building, Lucena City Monday, June 24.
“Pero ‘yong guarantee na ‘yan hate ko ‘yan eh. So, ‘yong mga narratives na ‘yan, no. We’ll work, nandito kami, and make sure we’ll do our part,” he added.
“It enhance the interest ng mga youth natin, hindi lang sa tourist destination kundi makilala din tayo sa sports,” she stressed. “That’s why sa sports talaga we’re not focusing in one, kaya marami pang susunod, football, softball, chess.”
“This team is built to win,” team manager Atty. Donn Kapunan continued.
Dorog will serve as team captain of the Tangerines which also include Zamantha Nolasco, Chenae Basarte, Clydel Mae Catarig, Fiona Getigan, Corrine Apostol, Cristy Ondangan, Aya Densing, Kim Estenzo, Zen Basilip, Fiona Inocentes, Marygrace Borromeo, Sofia Badion, Shekaina and Shanana Llesses, who all came from different universities.
The local talents are Paola Albon, Lenie Sapallo, Jasmine Dapol, CJ Lubiano, Jillian Quiambao, Geraldine Rae Palacio, Kamille Josephine Tan and Louann Latigay.
Last year, the Bacoor City Strikers ruled the inaugural edition after beating Negros Lady Blue Hawks, 28-26, 25-14, 25-23, in Finals Game 3.
