The Philippine Aquatics Inc. has been ramping up its grassroots program, giving aspiring swimmers from schools across the country the chance to showcase their talents in multiple competitions in the next few months.
First on PAI’s program is the 2024 Speedo Swim Smart Novice and Sprint Meet on July 20-21 at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Center inside the famed Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
PAI Secretary-General and Batangas 1st District Congressman Eric Buhain is encouraging the schools and swimming clubs to enlist their young and aspiring swimmers in what is expected to be a fun-filled two-day event.
“This tournament is for the kids, especially those coming from summer camps and swimming lessons. Pagkakataon ito ng ating mga coaches at swimming club’s member na makita yung early development sa mga tinuruan nilang swimmers. Walang pressure dito, kaya tiyak masaya ito at mage-enjoy ang lahat,’ Buhain said of the event that is supported by Speedo Philippines and Philippine Sports Commission.
On top of that, PAI is also still looking for possible members of the Philippine delegation in the Asian Open Schools (AOSI) Short Course Championship set on August 17-18 at the Assumption University Aquatics Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
A total of 50 swimmers are allocated for PAI in the competition that is organized by the World Aquatics-sanctioned Global Aquatics and should serve as a qualifier to Belgium Short Course Championships and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Championships.
Interested swimmers can send their letters of intent to PAI until Friday, July 19.
