Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival is now even bigger on its second year.
It has increased funding for its finalists, with seven full-length directors set to receive a production grant worth 3 million pesos each.
Meanwhile, 25 select student short film directors will receive a production grant worth 150 thousand pesos each.
Puregold’s Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Piedad underscored the importance of giving the Filipino artist continued support, particularly filmmakers, noting how Puregold CinePanalo was envisioned as a platform for both well-known and emerging cinéastes, and to showcase narratives—collectively called Kuwentong Panalo—that can touch the heart and remind us of the indomitable Filipino spirit.
Piedad related, “When we first launched Puregold CinePanalo, we envisioned it to champion Filipino stories, advocate for student filmmakers by providing them with a platform for their dream short films, and elevate the local film scene.”
Highlighting the success of the previous iteration of the festival, Piedad shared, “We saw the birth of promising talents, with several inspiring stories that came to life on the big screen.”
She added, “Now, fueled by last edition’s success, here we are once again. Back and bigger than ever, ready to celebrate another year of incredible films and mark the second chapter of Puregold CinePanalo.”
Present at the launch was Always Panalo Film awardee Carlo Obispo (“A Lab Story”).
Five student directors also shared their experiences joining Puregold CinePanalo.
These include Always Panalo Film awardee Jenievive Adame, Best Director winner Dizelle Masilungan, and regional filmmakers Marian Jayce Tiongzon and Joanah Demonteverde.
Best Picture winner Kurt Soberano (“Under A Piaya Moon”) also encouraged filmmakers to join Puergold CinePanalo via video.
As in the previous year, this year’s Puregold CinePanalo seeks film entries that showcase the indomitable spirit of the Filipino through uplifting and inspiring “panalo stories.”
The mechanics are available on Puregold’s official social media accounts.
For full-length entries, submit a complete screenplay among other requirements by July 30.
The deadline for shorts is on Aug. 15.
