PARIS – It looks like Nesthy Petecio’s own version of ‘last dance’ would be a long one.
Three solid shots in the first round set the tone for Petecio’s unanimous 5-0 win over Indian Jaismine Lamboria in the round-of-32 of the women’s 57 kg division in the Paris Olympics Tuesday, July 30, here.
Though shorter by several inches, Petecio danced her way to pile up points and prevailed convincingly, making her the second Filipino to advance to the next round after rookie Aira Villegas who likewise scored an impressive win on Sunday.
Shouts of “Laban Nesthy Laban!” and “Laban Pilipinas!” reverberated inside the arena each time the pride of Davao del Sur landed a crackling shot to the face of the Indian.
“Kung ano yung plano naming ni coach Rey (Galido) yun lang gjnawa ko, at nung alam ko lamang na ako, sinayawan ko na lang,” said the Tokyo Games silver medalist.
“Dagdag lakas kapag naririnig ko ang sigaw na Pilipinas,” said Petecio with a sweet smile pointing to the flag on her jersey.
Up next for Petecio is the dangerous of the nation.
