Marina Tushova fired from all angles while Iris Tolenada came as a perfect partner to power Capital1 past ZUS Coffee, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City Tuesday, Aug. 6.
After etching a historic PVL record of 45 points against Choco Mucho, Tushova delivered another worthy performance of 32 points while veteran Tolenada listed 21 excellent sets on top of five markers to give the Solar Spikers their second straight win and third overall in five games, good for third place in Pool B.
Japanese Asaka Tamaru and Dolly Versoza unloaded 22 and 12 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to save the Thunderbelles from a 0-5 hole in the standings.
“Maganda ‘yong pangitain sa future [and] maganda ‘yong magiging sitwasyon namin,” said Capital1 head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Looking forward ako for a better future [ng team namin],” he added.
Meanwhile, Petro Gazz (2-3) vented its ire and made quick work of Choco Mucho (1-4), 25-18, 25-21, 25-18, to bounce back from its lopsided loss to Cignal (4-1) last week.
The troika of Wilma Salas, Brooke Van Sickle, and Myla Pablo rose from the ashes, pumping in 18, 17, and 11 points, respectively, to tow the Angels in their match that lasted for only one and a half hours.
Salas also dazzled defensively, tallying 18 excellent receptions.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat was the lone double-digit scorer for the Flying Titans with 13. Deanna Wong backstopped her with six as their Greek reinforcer Zoi Faki only had three points to show.
