Working on writer-director Jonathan Jurilla’s “Love Child,” an entry to this year’s Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, was quite the eye-opener for Jane Oineza and RK Bagatsing.
Both admitted to learning a lot playing a young couple raising a child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Said Jane, “It heightened my understanding and appreciation relating the hardships and the sacrifices that parents go though raising a child. I really feel so blessed to have worked on this project.”
“Personally, I learned a lot about unconditional love,” said RK. “Parenting is a huge sacrifice and through this film, I have learned to appreciate that more than ever.”
This is what they are hoping to communicate with audiences.
“Our wish is for them to be able to learn as we did watching the film,” said Jane.
“It’s actually our director Jonathan’s story,” added RK. “It’s his love letter to his son who has also been diagnosed with autism. The story is what Direk Jonathan, his wife and son went through. It is important for him to spread awareness on autism and we are glad to be part of his objective.”
This early, many are commending Jane and RK for their performance in the film. Some believe they are set to reap acting awards for the same.
“It certainly warms the heart,” said RK of the comments. “But of course, we are not expecting anything. At this point, we are already quite happy that people gave our film huge notice.”
RK went on to mention how their son in the film, Kali, as portrayed by Tyrron Ramos, helped a lot in making things easier for them.
“He is a natural,” he said.
“I’m really thankful that Regal Films produced ‘Love Child,’” intoned Jane. “The story deserves to be heard, seen.”
