The leader of the notorious Brondial Criminal Group was shot dead by an alert security guard during a robbery at a fruit store in Barangay Sand Isidro, Makati City on Wednesday, August 14, the Southern Police District (SPD) said.
Police identified the suspect as “Jeric,” who had a warrant of arrest for frustrated homicide, carnapping, robbery, and murder cases.
Police said Jeric’s group entered the store and declared a hold-up. Two of them went to the 2nd floor while the three others remained on the ground floor, seizing the cellphones of the security guard and store employees.
The security guard, however, was able to fire shots at the suspects who panicked upon hearing the sirens of responding police officers. Jeric was hit and died-on-the-spot while his cohorts escaped.
The police recovered the stolen cellphone owned by the security guard, a .9mm pistol, a .38-caliber revolver, and ammunition from Jeric’s body.
The store’s cashier said Jeric’s accomplices got away with an iPhone 13 worth P40,000 and a Samsung cellphone worth P10,000.
The police also recovered a motorcycle and a Suzuki Raider motorcycle without a plate number which yielded the gang leader’s driver’s license.
“We would like to acknowledge the alertness and quick action of the security guard that resulted in the neutralization of the suspect. Also, continuous conduct of manhunt operations is underway for the possible arrest of the remaining at-large suspects,” SPD district director Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete said.
