Magnolia import Glenn Robinson III is not exactly a fan of the PBA’s new innovation, the four-point line, but nonetheless would try to take advantage of it if given a chance.
The eight-year NBA veteran even nearly sank what could have been the very first game-winning four-pointer had it not gone a bit off target which allowed the Meralco Bolts to take a 99-94 opening day win.
“I knew we needed a three and they added the four-point line, so I figured, ‘Why not go for the kill?’ Why not try to get that four-pointer. Unfortunately it didn’t go down. Sometimes it’s like that, but I felt like I got a good look at it. It just didn’t fall for us,” said Robinson III moments after the game.
Robinson III seemed to have lived up to the billing as far his first game performance is concerned, unloading 29 points and 11 rebounds. He also hit a huge wing triple that gave the Hotshots a fighting chance in the end, before he boldly went for the win with the four.
While the former NBA slam dunk king seemed to like shooting the ball from way deep, Robinson III admitted that he was not really a huge fan of the four-point shot in a sense that he felt nobody is really paying conscious effort to take a shot from 27-feet and beyond.
“I’m not a huge fan of it. I don’t think everybody really pays that much attention to it,” said Robinson III
“But it’s a cool addition. We’ll play with it this year, see how it goes. I heard that it was in the All-Star Games here before. It’s something new, it’s something exciting, you never know what will catch on and what won’t. But I’m not huge on it,” he furthered.
He, however, admitted that he could see it adding a new flavor for the fans to enjoy. But as players, there’s not really much thought on purposely going for the shot.
“I think it’s cool for the fans, it’s interesting for the fans but as players, there’s not too many times that we actually think about, like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna take this four-pointer instead of the three,’ you know.”
