Business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan is rewarding Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo P10 million cash through his Manny V. Pangilinan Sports Foundation (MVPSF) on Thursday, Aug. 22.
Pangilinan personally met the celebrated gymnast at the PLDT Building in Makati along with other MVPSF officials – Al Panlilio included.
On his social media post, Pangilinan, who is First Pacific’s chairman for the group’s investments in the country including PLDT and Smart, will also hand bronze medal winners Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas P2 million each for giving pride and honor to the country during the Paris Olympics.
Yulo was accompanied by Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia Carrion.
The two boxers were not around to receive their financial rewards as they are reportedly in their respective province – Petecio in Davao del Sur and Villegas in Tacloban City.
The MVPSF is also awarding cash incentives of P5 million to Yulo’s coaching team and P2 million to the boxing coaches as gratitude for helping the three athletes achieve another milestone in Philippine sports history.
“Like always, they can count on our continued support until LA 2028. Mabuhay ang atletang Pinoy!” Pangilinan wrote on social media.
Yulo became the country’s most decorated Olympian so far after winning two gold medals in men’s artistic gymnastics while Petecio and Villegas bagged bronze medal apiece in their respective weight classes in women’s boxing.
This is the second consecutive edition that the country won an Olympic gold following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s historic victory in the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games three years ago.
