Para Archer Agustina Bantiloc ended her Paris stint after bowing to Brazilian Jane Karla Gögel, 143-127, in the 1/16 elimination round of the Women’s Individual Compound Open event of the 2024 Paralympic Games at at the famed Hotel des Invalides Friday, Aug. 30.
The 56-year-old Bantiloc was in a toe-to-toe battle against Gögel early on but things turned around in the third set with the latter preserving the momentum up to the end.
Gögel will face Chinese Jiamin Zhou, who turned back Ireland’s Kerrie Leonard, 140-135, in the next round.
Bantiloc opened her campaign with a season-best of 618 points to finish 28th in her event.
The pride of Baguio City earned her Olympic ticket through Bipartite Commission Invitation (BPC) which gives four individual berths (two men, two women) for eligible athletes.
She also became the first Filipino archer to land a spot in the Paralympics
Meanwhile, wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan will begin his Olympic bid in the men’s 400m T52 later tonight.
