Hit film franchise “Hellboy” just got another reboot in “Hellboy: The Crooked Man.”
Produced by Millennium Media, Dark Horse Entertainment, Nu Boyana Film Studios, and Campbell Grobman Films, it is the fourth live-action entry in the franchise as directed by Brian Taylor.
The story is set in the late 1950s, with Hellboy (Jack Kesy) already entrenched well within the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) as its top agent.
He is paired with the rookie Bobbie Jo Song (Adeline Rudolph).
The two are tasked to transport a sedated magical spider to a lab for research purposes.
But along the way, the spider wakes up and attacks them, going on to escape somewhere in the Appalachian Region.
In their attempt to catch it, they end up in a town infested by witches as led by a devil named the crooked man (Martin Massindale).
The two would then meet Tom Ferrel (Jefferson White), a local who possesses a magical bone that can be used against the crooked man.
Hellboy, Bobbie Jo and Tom all agree to get rid of the crooked man once and for all.
But it’s easier said than done.
First, they have to deal with Effie, the crooked man’s second-in-command, among other malevolent creatures.
“Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola himself, first came out as a comic book in 2008 and is a fan favorite.
It is no surprise that the film is quite faithful to the book story-wise.
Aesthetically, it is far darker than earlier entries in the franchise.
Catch it in cinemas nationwide on September 11.
