NLEX is hoping to get its hands on versatile wingman Javee Mocon, proposing a trade with Phoenix in exchange for Ato Ular and a future pick, the team announced through its social media accounts on Wednesday, Sept 11.
The Road Warriors said the deal is already on the table of the league trade committee and awaiting for approval.
Should be given the green light, NLEX main man Robert Bolick would get reunited with Mocon who, together, steered San Beda to three NCAA senior basketball titles in as many years from Season 92 to 94.
The addition of Mocon should also provide versatility on the wingman rotation for head coach Jong Uichico as the 29-year-old forward is a proven slasher and decent operator on the post.
NLEX expressed its gratitude for Ular who the Road Warriors landed through a trade in February this year.
“We are thankful for Ato’s time with NLEX. Although it was brief, he brought energy to our practices and games,” said NLEX Road Warriors team governor Ronald Dulatre.
“We wish him nothing but the best in his journey with Phoenix.”
Ular, prior to his stint with NLEX, proved to be a reliable big man during his time with Blackwater although injuries prevented him from becoming an able contributor for the Road Warriors.
A change of environment could help Ular get his confidence back especially that the Fuel Masters are in need of an extra big body to help Jason Perkins in the middle. Phoenix, however, currently sits at the bottom of Group B and winless through six games.
