Betta Caloocan Swim Team protégé Aishel Evangelista looked poised to win the Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) in his age class while on the distaff side, his teammate, Patricia Santor continued to shine in the Philippine Aquatics, Inc. “Go Full Speedo’ Swim Series Long Course Swimming Meet Leg 1 on Sunday at the Teofilo Yldefonso swimming pool in Malate, Manila.
The 14-year-old Evangelista, a Grade 10 student at the University of Santo Tomas, topped the boys’ 14-yrs-old 200m Individual Medley and 50m breaststroke, clocking 2:18.45 and 33.38 seconds, respectively, to increase his gold medal haul to four halfway through the two-day event backed by Speedo, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
For her part, the 16-yrs-old Santor of Ilustre East Swim claimed her third gold medal winning the girls’ 200m IM in a time of 2:31.22 against Nichole Rivera of Golden Sea Eagles (2:45.770 and teammate Ruth Denise Sula (2:49,95). The UST Senior High student and a member of the AAGC National squad won the 200m breaststroke (2:50.68) and 100m freestyle (1:02.80) on the opening day.
Las Pinas pride Nicola Queen Diamante of RSS Dolphins, Makoto Nakamura of S’Ace Seahawks, and North Cotabato phenom Jie Angela Mikaela Talosig of Midsayap Pirates shared the limelight winning their second gold medals in their respective age group class.
Diamante, a Grade 9 student at Augustinian Abbey, who previously won the girls 13 yrs.-old 100m free (1:07.48), delivered anew in the 50m back (32.76), while Talosig, 18, added the 200m IM (2:33.32) on her earlier triumph in the 100m free (1:01.80). The 11-year-old Makoto topped the 200m IM (2:45.64) and 50m breaststroke (40.27).
