The PBA was saddened by the involvement of NorthPort guard John Amores in a shooting incident in Laguna on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
“This is a matter subject of investigation by the police, and we cannot comment on it. But we are saddened by such an unfortunate incident,” said PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial in a story published on the league website.
Amores and his brother reportedly already turned themselves in to the authorities on Thursday, Sept. 26, due to security threats following the incident where he shot a certain Lee Calcadac along national road in Brgy. Maytalang Uno in Lumban, Laguna.
The commotion reportedly stemmed from an earlier altercation during their basketball game. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.
Amores and his brother are facing serious charges of attempted murder with the inquest proceeding also beginning on Thursday.
Despite getting involved in numerous brawls and controversies during his college years, the PBA gave Amores the second chance and allowed him to join last year’s draft where he was picked 51st overall by NorthPort.
The Batang Pier have yet to release a statement regarding the incident as it is still under investigation although the team has already put Amores in a preventive suspension.
Then playing for Jose Rizal University, he once punched University of the Philippines’ Mark Belmonte during a pre-season game before he went on a rampage in an NCAA game, also punching several players on the College of St. Benilde bench.
He was banished from JRU and received an indefinite suspension in NCAA.
