Two rising stars from Russia and 13 from India are arriving in the country to compete in the Asian Juniors and Girls Chess Championships that will start on Oct. 11 in Tagaytay City.
Inspired by their older counterparts’ historic golden double in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, the Indians are fancied to dominate the event, along with Russian players.
Russian Grandmaster Aleksey Grebnev (2530) is the event’s top seed but he will be competing under the neutral FIDE flag.
Leading India’s charge is second seed International Master Krishna Rohith and third seed IM Aswath S who have rating of 2474 and 2473, respectively.
Other Indian boys are Candidate Master Bharadia Yas, IM Manish Anto Cristiano, FM Adireddy Arjun, CM Velavaa Ragavesh and Akshat Sureka.
The Philippines’ top junior is IM Michael Concio, Jr..
In the distaff side, India’s newest Woman International Master Tejaswani G. is seeded second while fourth seed is WFM Shubhi Gupta.
Other fancied players from India are WFM Shubhi Gupta, Sneha Halder, WFM Bristy Mukherjee and Khairmode Dhanashree.
Russian Woman International Master Anna Shukhman has been seeded as No. 1.
Formats for both events will be a 9-round Swiss System.
At stake are GM and WGM norms for the gold medalists in both divisions.
