There’s no animosity between two of the country’s global sports stars.
Pole vaulter EJ Obiena clarified this on a lengthy social media post Wednesday, Oct. 9, saying he has no quarrel whatsoever with Paris Olympic double gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
He shot down rumors circulating on various platforms that he made comments regarding Yulo’s personal life, particularly his feud with some members of his family.
It was misleading, he said.
In that particular post, Obiena stressed that it will be the last time he will make a statement about it, noting he has a great relationship with Yulo and it’s always been like that for the upcoming years.
“I have hoped and tried to stay silent and not fuel anymore of the misleading stories. It’s a sad state of affairs when stories are fabricated to get clicks and likes and shares,” Obiena opened. “Journalism is a noble profession driven by FACTS. It’s a shame it is sometimes abused.”
“I am friends with Caloy and have been for many years. And for decades to come,” Obiena added.
“I don’t compete with my friend Caloy and I deeply respect him. He is a great champion for our country and I applaud him. I am proud of him. I am thankful for the glory he has brought to our country,” he continued.
And when it comes to his friend’s private life, the Asiad champion underscored that he has nothing to do or need to comment about it, emphasizing that it was a family matter.
“I [have never made a single comment] regarding Caloy’s private life and I never shall,” he continued.
“Any assertion otherwise is outright libel. I know when to keep my mouth shut; and when it comes to anyone’s private life this is one of those times.”
