Reigning UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao is not putting much emphasis on his personal achievement as long as La Salle remains on track at claiming a second championship glory this season.
Quiambao remained a strong contender for the Best Player plum through the eliminations so far but he stressed that another title for the Green Archers is the only goal he has in mind at this point.
“Team achievement talaga ako, gusto ko talagang mag-champion kami this season. Willing kami dumaan sa proseso and sa mga hardships. ‘Yon ‘yong kagandahan sa culture namin, hindi lang ako ang main guy dito kundi lahat kami,” said Quiambao who cashed in 17 points in La Salle’s 70-45 demolition of Adamson (3-6) last weekend.
After their surprising loss against UE in the first round, La Salle has now stringed together six-straight victories with no less than Quiambao leading the charge in almost every department – highlighted by a career-high scoring of 29 points in a win against UST.
“‘Yong focus ng ibang team is nasa akin. So, I need to find ways kung paano ako makakatulong sa team. Whether scoring, rebounding, sa lahat ng aspects. If ever di mag-click yung points ko sa game na ito, I need to do the dirty works kung ano yung mga pwedeng kitulong ko sa team,” he added.
The undisputed leader of the team, Quiambao reminded his teammates that as much as the success they are relishing right now, they need to keep their feet on the ground and patiently go through the process.
“(We have to) remain humble and healthy. Iyong system namin dito, treat a championship game every game, and as a veteran here, kini-keep in check kolang sila na hindi pwedeng mawala sa focus,” said Quiambao.
“Focus lang sa goal namin, take one game at a time and ‘yong proseso wag namin ii-skip,” he added.
