Can comedy and horror ever be mixed?
“Kang Mak,” a movie from Indonesia now showing in Philippine cinemas, answers that question.
The film follows Makmur, a soldier whose main motivation to survive the war is to come home to his pregnant wife, Sari.
He fights alongside Supra, Fajrul, Jaka, and Solah, and their shared experiences have made them friends for life.
Makmur’s most awaited homecoming finally arrives, and he is thrilled to find out that Sari has already given birth. His friends rejoice with him.
However, their delight turns to fright when one of the friends stumbles upon a dead body that looks exactly like Sari. It turns out that Sari is actually dead, and they are in the company of a wandering spirit.
The four will go on to attempt to inform Makmur about it.
Of course, hijinks ensue along the way.
It works mainly due to the chemistry exhibited by all the actors involved including Indonesia’s top comedians, Indro Warkop, and real-life husband and wife Vino Bastian and Marsha Timothy.
In all, “Kang Mak” is a fun, entertaining buddy flick with a dash of horror and drama.
