A Pasay City court has ordered the release of actress Neri Naig-Miranda, who is facing syndicated estafa charges, from detention, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera noted that “the BJMP received the court order issued today (Dec. 4) by the (Pasay) RTC (Regional Trial Court) 112 ordering the release of Nerizza Miranda.’’
He noted that Miranda is still in the hospital where she was taken for medical evaluation at around 8 p.m. on Nov. 29 as directed by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 112 upon the request of the actress’ lawyer.
Earlier, Bustinera explained that Miranda will remain in the undisclosed hospital for “not more than five days’’ and will be released from the health facility after completing the lawful process, explaining that “we have to conduct verification for pending cases and warrant.’’
“As soon as cleared na, we will release (Miranda),’’ Bustinera said.
When pressed where the actress was brought, Bustinera clarified that they are not in liberty to provide any information or details “where or in what hospital’’ Miranda was transported for her medical evaluation.
“PDL (persons deprived of liberty) Miranda was committed to Pasay City Jail Female Dormitory last 27 November 2024 by virtue of the commitment order issued by the court for the case of syndicated estafa,’’ he added.
Businera also asserted that Miranda never received any preferential treatment and was treated like any other ordinary PDL, stressing that “yung pagdala niya (Miranda) sa hospital was in compliance with the court order.
The BJMP official stressed this to brush off insinuations that affluent, influential and popular PDL personalities are accorded with special privileges like hospital confinement. (Chito Chavez)
