Among most anticipated entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival is “Isang Himala.”
A musical adaptation of the iconic 1982 film starring the one and only Superstar Nora Aunor, it is a bold undertaking indeed.
Many will no doubt compare it to the original as directed by Ishmael Bernal.
Ricky Lee is not bothered one bit. He is confident the film could stand on its own merit.
Note that Ricky himself wrote the original.
“The narrative of the film is still relevant today. Kailangan pa rin natin ang himala. That said, para sa akin itong ginagawa namin ngayon ay isang tribute sa pelikulang nagawa noong 1982,” he said.
Asked how Ishmael would react if ever, Ricky smiles and said, “Matutuwa yun. Knowing him, mahilig yun sa diskurso and I’m sure he would be interested as to how we will be presenting it in a way that resonates with modern audiences while maintaining its timeless essence.”
Meanwhile, film director Pepe Diokno, asserted that much as they tried to enhance the film visually-speaking, at its heart it remains the same.
He related, “The film delves into the complexities of faith, human desires, and the darker sides of hope, creating an emotionally moving narrative that invites viewers to reflect on their own beliefs and the choices they make.”
The film’s lead, Aicelle Santos, is simply grateful to have been chosen for the role of Elsa.
“It’s a huge thing for me kasi, iba ang stage, iba ang film. Mas challenging ito for a singer like me. And I’m truly honored to be part of this project. In fact, I consider it my own miracle.”
Presented by CreaZion Studios in partnership with Unitel, Straightshooter, Kapitol Films, and CMB Production, “Isang Himala” premieres December 25.
