When the goings get tough, and when no one is around, a believer would do a thing that he knows is the most potent way to deal with adversities – a prayer.
Just like when life throws rock at someone, La Salle stuck into its faith, believing that miracles do happen on the floor and whenever they are in trouble.
They were right.
“God is so good,” said an emotional Phillips, who tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and two steals in La Salle’s 76-75 Game 2 win over the UP Fighting Maroons last Wednesday evening, Dec. 11, at the packed Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“Not just because we won. But, because God has been with us through highs and lows,” he added.
“That’s our faith in Jesus Christ. That’s our faith in each other. We put our total trust in each other. That’s why when we pull through. I just praise God [and] I praise Jesus Christ.”
The 6-foot-8 Phillips, who is part of this year’s Mythical Five, also shared that La Salle head coach Topex Robinson gave an amazing prayer during their practice where some of their family members and former players were present as well.
“I wish you guys could’ve been there yesterday during our practice. Coach Topex gave one of the most amazing prayers that I’ve heard from a man…,” the Fil-American cager added.
The Archers were teetering on the brink of defeat after falling behind 71-63 midway in the fourth frame.
Then their fervent prayers were answered.
Thanks to Phillips and back-to-back MVP Kevin Quiambao, the Archers suddenly came alive, and that led to a blazing finish, thus completing a miracle win.
“When anxiety sets in, when nervousness sets in, in that third quarter, in that fourth quarter, you always have to find something that’s consistent and that’s our faith,” said Phillips.
