Film director Lino Cayetano is determined to continue with his plan to run for congressman in the first district of Taguig-Pateros this upcoming midterm elections despite questions regarding his and his wife Fille Cainglet-Cayetano’s residency.
Note the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied their request to transfer residency from the second district of Taguig to the first district of Taguig-Pateros.
“Walang makakapigil sa akin. I will not be disqualified,” he told us. “I will fight for my right to represent Taguig and Pateros.”
“I will fight the disqualification case until umabot siya ng Supreme Court,” he insisted. “Legally, we are confident that we will win the case.”
But why is he adamant in serving as congressman?
The 46-year-old son of former senator Rene Cayetano, who, prior, also served as mayor and congressman in Taguig, maintained public service is a huge passion.
“There’s a certain kind of fulfillment you get in serving other people,” he related. “Nasa dugo ko e. Besides, I look at it as a blessing. Napakasarap sa pakiramdam na makatulong ka in nation building. In Congress, I feel like I can do more to bring new solutions to old problems.”
But what about his career in entertainment, we asked.
Lino related, “Hindi ko bibitawan yan. I think we made a lot of progress with Rein Entertainment. Hindi naman nalalayo sa entertainment ang politika. Here, we inspire people through our work, through storytelling. We also provide jobs, opportunities to a lot of people.
“Sometimes, we underestimate how important our industry is, how much inspiration we give to other people. Our industry is so important. If we do our work the right way, we are able to really inspire and uplift our nation in different ways.”
He then made clear, “I won’t leave showbiz. In fact, I’ve become more active in film production now. I’ve seen the great potential of the entertainment industry in helping many people. Many jobs can be created as our industry continues to grow. I think, yung konting experience and knowledge ko sa showbiz, especially the connections that I’ve made will help me be a better congressman for Taguig and Pateros.”
After “Bagman” in 2019, Cayetano produced the suspense thriller, “Nananahimik ang Gabi.”
Both earned widespread critical acclaim.
Lino is busy promoting “Drug War: A Conspiracy of Silence,” a show “inspired by true events” from the country’s controversial “War on Drugs” during the time of former President Duterte.
Rein Entertainment has also finished filming “Caretakers,” a collaborative project with Regal Films starring Iza Calzado and Dimples Romana.
