Carl Tamayo unleashed his inner beast on the way to a career-high 37 points in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) on Thursday, Jan. 9.
But it was a bittersweet moment for the Gilas Pilipinas pool member.
That’s because Tamayo’s Changwon LG Sakers still went down in defeat to the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 92-88, that ruined what could have been an unforgettable night.
The 6-foot-7 Tamayo made all his 15 tries from the two-point area and was 2-of-4 from the trifectaville on top of seven rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of play.
Tamayo’s 37-point output bettered the 36-point explosion of fellow Filipino import SJ Belangel who is playing for Daegu.
Interestingly, Belangel did it against the Thunders.
However, the former UP star’s feat wasn’t able to save the Sakers from the painful defeat as the Thunders rallied in the fourth quarter to complete their remarkable comeback.
Darryl Monroe and Yang Jun-Seok backstopped Tamayo’s gallant effort with 12 points each as the Sakers dropped to a 14-13 card at 5th spot.
Kofi Cockburn starred for Seoul after listing 24 points and nine rebounds while Fil-American Justin Gutang backed him up with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.
