Carl Tamayo produced another superb outing as the Changwon LG Sakers rallied late to earn their revenge against the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 84-79, in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The 23-year-old Gilas star logged 24 points apart from posting seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks in leading the Sakers to victory,
The win was the second straight and 17th overall in 30 games.
It was a special night for Tamayo, who was named as the league’s third round MVP after averaging 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists in six games.
Tamayo highlighted his improved performances of late with back-to-back 30-point outputs. He also fired a career-high high 37 but that was spoiled by the Thunders via a 92-88 escape last week.
Darry Monroe added 10 points and 12 rebounds while Yang Jun-Seok put up 16 points and 12 assists for Changwon while Choi Seong-Mo (24), Fil-Am Justin Gutang (14), and Lee Weon-Seok (11) topped the offensive column of Seoul, which sustained its 18th loss with 11 wins at 8th.
Meanwhile, the Skygunners survived the gritty Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 84-81, to halt their five-game losing slide.
They did that without two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao who is revering from a ruptured ankle ligament.
The Skygunners picked up their 10th victory against 20 defeats at 9th spot while the Mobis Phoebus still looked great with a 20-9 win-loss record in second place.
