Viva is offering something new for its first film salvo this year: Holy comedy.
It may sound absurd, like something that Batman’s Robin would utter, but film director Marius Talampas maintained it offers more than just laughs – it actually puts forward something deeper, meaningful that viewers can latch on to.
“’Ang Sampung Utos Kay Josh’ is not merely a film—it is a visceral, cathartic experience that delves into the heart of what it means to be human, challenging us to confront our deepest fears and emerge, perhaps, stronger for the journey,” he told us.
He made clear, “Hindi siya blasphemous, wala kami sinisiraang paniniwala dito. Kwento lang ito sa isang tao. ‘Yung laban sa sarili niya and paniniwala niya. May lessons dito, may matutunan dito. Madami life lessons.”
The film centers on Josh, a loan executive who was brought up to be quite religious.
This leads to Josh being a devout follower of the Ten Commandments.
However, following a series of unfortunate events, Josh finds himself questioning everything he once believed in, feeling “punished” despite all the good deeds he has done.
Ultimately, he decides to break each commandment, one by one.
Can Josh find redemption in his rebellion, or will breaking the rules break him for good?
Said Jerald, “I’m sure marami ang makaka-relate sa character ko dito. Matatawa sila pero mapapaisip din sila.”
Pepe Herrera, who plays the devil in the film, related, “I don’t think offensive ang film. Hindi ganun ang intension namin. The intention is to entertain and impart lessons.”
From Viva Films, in collaboration with Anima and Sine Arcade, “Sampung Utos Kay Josh,” also stars Albie Casiño, Bobot Mortiz, Irma Adlawan, James Caraan, Ashley Rivera, Debbie Garcia and Donna Cariaga.
It hits cinemas nationwide on January 29.
