Actress Gloria Romero has passed away at 91.
The news was confirmed by her daughter, Maritess Gutierrez, through a Facebook post, Saturday, Jan. 25.
“TO OUR DEAREST FAMILY, RELATIVES, AND FRIENDS: It is with great sadness to announce the passing of my beloved Mother, Gloria Galla Gutierrez aka Gloria Romero, who peacefully joined our Creator earlier today,” Gutierrez wrote.
The wake will be held at Arlington Memorial Chapel, Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
“In this time of loss, our family deeply appreciates the support, prayers, sympathy, all the lovely messages, and heartfelt condolences that we’ve received. She will surely be missed dearly,” Maritess added.
Born Gloria Anne Borrego Galla in December 16, 1933, Gloria started her acting career under Sampaguita Pictures.
After appearing as so-called “extra” in a slew of films, Gloria gained acclaim in 1952, starring in “Monghita.”
She would earn her first FAMAS Best Actress Award only a few years later in 1954, for her performance in “Dalagang Ilocana.”
Gloria would go on to carve a long and illustrious acting career, earning the title “Queen of Philippine Cinema.”
