Filipino-American Ethan Alvano flexed his might once again, powering the Wonju DB Promy to a 99-92 victory over the Seoul Samsung Thunders for their second straight win in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Friday, Jan. 24.
The 28-year-old Alvano dropped 32 points – one point shy for tying his KBL career-high of 33 last year – along with seven rebounds, nine assists, and four steals to anchor the Promy to a 16-16 slate at sixth spot in the standings after almost squandering a 20-point lead in the third frame.
It was a perfect follow-up to Alvano’s triple-double output of 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists in their 82-75 triumph over the Anyang JKJ Red Boosters (9-23) last Wednesday.
Alvano was selected as an All-Star in the Korean league together with fellow Filipino ballers in SJ Belangel of Daegu KOGAS Pegasus and Thunders’ Justin Gutang last weekend.
Lee Kwan-Hee (25) and Jyeong Hyo-Geun (15) backed Alvano in the Promy’s scoring column while Gutang (15) and Choi Seong-Mo (15) led the late – one point shy for tying his KBL career-high of 33 last year of the Thunders who endured their 20th defeat against 11 wins.
Meanwhile, JD Cagulangan’s impressive outing of 13 points, two rebounds, five assists, and three steals couldn’t save the Suwon KT Sonicboom as they siffered a 93-72 beating from the Red Boosters.
