The Suwon KT Sonicboom shrugged off a lethargic start and turned back the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 78-73, to notch their third straight win in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Friday, Jan. 31.
Behind by 13, 45-32, in the second quarter, the Sonicboom regained their footing and crawled their way back into the contest before seizing the lead midway of the payoff period, leaving the Skygunners in complete disarray.
Rayshaun Hammonds starred for Suwon with 23 points on top nine rebounds, two steals and a block while Heo Hoon and Ismael Romero added 16 and 11 points, respectively.
In the first-ever battle of former UAAP stars – JD Cagulangan of University of the Philippines and Kevin Quiambao of La Salle – it was the former who emerged triumphant – again.
That despite a quiet performance by Cagulangan who had only four points, one rebound, four assists, and a steal.
Quiambao, for his part, delivered his KBL career-high scoring of 18 points along with eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in a losing cause.
Lee Jae-Do and D.J Burns led the Skygunners with 21 and 19 points, respectively.
Suwon hiked its record to 19-15 at fourth while Goyang remained at the tailend with a 10-24 slate.
Meanwhile, Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers (20-13) clash against the Ethan Alvano-led Wonju DB Promy (16-18) later Saturday, Feb. 1.
