Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known here as Dong Shan Cai in the hit drama “Meteor Garden,” has passed away.
She was 48.
It was her younger sister, talk show host Dee Hsu, who confirmed the news.
“During the New Year holiday, our whole family traveled to Japan. My dearest and kindest sister, Barbie Hsu, unfortunately passed away due to flu-related pneumonia. I am grateful to have been her sister in this lifetime, to have cared for each other and accompanied each other,” Dee Hsu said in a statement to Taiwanese network TVBS News.
“I will always be thankful for her and miss her forever. Shan~ Rest in peace! Love you always — Together, remember forever,” she added.
Hsu is survived by her husband, South Korean singer and DJ Koo Jun-yup, as well as her two children, a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, from her previous marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
“Meteor Garden,” was a Taiwanese adaptation of “Boys Over Flowers,” which also starred the boy group F4: Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu.
She is also known for her roles in TV series “Mars” (2004), where she co-starred with Chou, “Corner with Love” (2007) and “Summer’s Desire” (2010).
