The Philippines continued its hot form and clinched its third straight win in the mixed doubles event in curling on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.
Fil-Swiss Marc Pfister and Fil-Am Kathleen Dubberstein added the Qatari tandem of Mabarka Al-Abdulla and Nasser Abdulrahman Alyafei to their burgeoning list of victims after essaying an 11-3 win to remain unscathed in Group B of the preliminary stage.
The Qataris started hot with a 3-0 lead after the first end, but the PH bets quickly fought back by stringing three points apiece in the second and third ends, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth and sixth to finally seal the deal.
The Filipinos try to keep their record unscathed later in the day when they clash with host China, which currently totes a 2-0 record following victories over Kazakhstan, 11-5, and Kyrgyzstan, 8-3.
After China, they will face Kazakhstan on Thursday, Feb. 6.
The PH crew opened its campaign on a high note with a 12-6 upset win over South Korea, and followed it up with a 10-2 drubbing of Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Meanwhile, Team PH starts its campaign in the women’s and men’s rounds on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Aside from curling, the Filipinos are also competing in short track speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding.
