The Philippines split its final two assignments to wrap up its group stage action and advance to the mixed doubles qualification round in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China Thursday, Feb. 6.
Coming from a pristine 3-0 record, Fil-Swiss Marc Pfister and Fil-American Kathleen Dubberstein came out with an 11-2 win over Kazakhstan to erase the bitter taste of a 6-9 defeat to China earlier in the day.
In the playoff stage, Pfister and Dubberstein will battle Chinese Taipei in hopes of entering the semifinal and making it to the medal round.
The qualification and semis games are both set Friday, Feb. 7.
The Philippines also takes part in the men’s and women’s events which begin Sunday, Feb. 9.
Meanwhile, speed track skater Peter Groseclose and Dubberstein were chosen as the country’s flag-bearers in the quadrennial meet’s opening night Friday at the Harbin International Convention Exhibition and Sports Center.
