It’s only been a week since Converge fell short of making it to its first semifinals appearance and yet the FiberXers have already begun loading up weapons for an expected big bounce back for the Philippine Cup.
Converge has acquired guard Rey Suerte from Blackwater in exchange of BJ Andrade – a move that shows how focused the FiberXers are in finally getting over the hump after coming close to making the semis in this season’s first two conferences.
Suerte, picked No. 2 by Blackwater in the 2019 special draft, is expected to provide stability and firepower in Converge’s second unit.
He can also be a reliever for either Jordan Heading or Alec Stockton, given how Suerte is a decent outside threat and has the ability to create his own shots.
His addition is certainly a boost for Converge especially that the team, bannered by the twin towers of Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar, has high expectations for the all-Filipino after coming a win away of making the Final Four in both the Commissioner’s and Governors’ Cups.
Andrade, on the other hand, is expected to get the minutes he needs to excel especially after being part of the FiberXers second stringers. Coming off an injury that sidelined him for a year, the Ateneo-product has been flashes of brilliance for Converge.
