University of Perpetual Help outplayed San Beda in both the men’s and women’s divisions to make its title aspirations known to everyone in the NCAA Season 100 volleyball tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym.
The five-peat-seeking Altas overcame the resilient plays of the Red Lions in the second frame to complete a 25-22, 31-29, 25-23 thriller while the Lady Altas thumped the Lady Red Spikers, 25-18, 28-26, 25-16.
Kobe Tabuga and skipper Jefferson Marapoc unloaded 16 and 15 points, respectively, including combined 28 kills for the Altas, who overcame the Red Lions’ tough defense anchored on Anrie Bakil and Alener Munsing.
Klint Mateo presided over Perpetual’s offense with 17 excellent sets, even as KC Andrade and Kirth Rosos took charge on the defensive end with a combined five blocks.
In the distaff side, Shaila Omipon led the Lady Altas with 16 points including 15 attacks, even as Winning Bedana and Camille Bustamante chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Perpetual belles took advantage of San Beda’s erratic plays by getting 24 points off the Lady Red Spikers’ unforced errors in the 73-minute match.
Save for Angel Habacon, no other San Beda players scored in twin figures.
Habacon finished with 10 points built on eight kills and two aces.
