University of Santo Tomas star Angge Poyos has nothing but respect when she faced a familiar juniors rival in Adamson’s rookie Shaina Nitura in their first UAAP women’s volleyball clash last weekend.
Emerging as the two best hitters in Season 87, Poyos, the Season 86 Rookie of the Year, was just glad to score a victory against Nitura, whom she had battled multiple times in high school.
“Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na nagkaharap ulit kami ni Shaina, kasi no’ng highschool nagkaharap kami and now nasa collegiate level na kami,” said Poyos after powering the Golden Tigresses to their third consecutive win.
“And ‘yong sobrang hanga ako sa kanya, sa leadership nya and ‘yong maturity nya inside the court,” she added.
In their first showdown, UST prevailed over Adamson, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, with Nitura carrying the fight for the Lady Falcons with a 28-point performance.
“Talagang nili-lead nya ‘yong team nya and masaya akong nakuha namin ‘yong panalo,” stressed Poyos, who, for her part, pumped in 21 points including crucial kills in the fourth set.
With their win, the Tigresses hiked their record to 3-1 at second place, behind their finals rival and reigning champion National University Lady Bulldogs (4-0).
On the other hand, Adamson settled for a 2-2 card to tie with De La Salle University and Far Eastern University.
