Far Eastern University bucked a lethargic start and turned back Adamson, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-10, for its third straight win in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena Saturday, March 8.
The Lady Tamaraws found an antidote in slowing down Lady Falcons’ promising rookies Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi to improve their win-loss record to 4-2.
Jean Asis led the Tina Salak-mentored crew with 14 points on six kills, three blocks and five aces while Gerz Petallo, Faida Bakanke, and Jazlyn Ellarina combined for 37 points.
Skipper Tin Ubaldo distributed the ball well and managed 16 excellent sets on top of four points and six excellent digs.
Nitura went all around as she unloaded 24 points on 23 attacks and one block with nine excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions while getting support from Mordi, who tallied 12 points.
But their efforts went to naught as the Lady Falcons couldn’t douse the fire of the Lady Tamarawos, absorbing their third loss in five matches to drop to fifth in tie with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
After Nitura and Mordi closed out the opening frame with their 1-2 kills, the Lady Falcons lost their steam in the second as the Lady Tamaraws built enough walls against two of the league’s top freshmen.
Though Adamson managed to retaliate, FEU leaned on its defense that translated into offense to regain the tempo and kept it until the end.
