Carl Tamayo finally faced his Gilas Pilipinas teammate Kevin Quiambao in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), and he made sure he would emerge victorious.
And he did.
Tamayo delivered 12 points – his fourth consecutive twin-digit output – two rebounds and four assists to help the Changwon LG Sakers reaffirm their mastery of the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 91-79, for their second straight win Sunday, March 9.
Fresh from a 79-72 triumph over SJ Belangel and Daegu KOGAS Pegasus, Tamayo and the Sakers exhibited stellar plays on both ends against the Skygunners anew.
The game marked the first-ever showdown of two Gilas standouts and former UAAP stars on Korean soil – though they had a chance to play against each other last January.
It did not materialize though asQuiambao was sidelined after suffering an injury in his debut game.
Assem Marei was solid anew for Changwon, finishing with 29 points and 23 rebounds with six assists and four steals.
Quiambao, for his part, unleashed 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals while D.J. Burns and Lee Jae-Do posted 25 and 11 points, respectively, which couldn’t save the Skygunners to their 29th loss against 14 wins at ninth.
