Police rescued a kidnapped Chinese national and arrested five of his captors during a pursuit operation that resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider who was hit by the vehicle of the fleeing suspects in Pasay City early Wednesday morning, March 12.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Brig. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the operation started when they received a report that a Chinese was kidnapped by five of his fellow nationals.
According to the report, the victim’s friend promptly informed the authorities about the kidnapping incident, with the suspects demanding a ransom of P500,000 in exchange for the victim’s release.
“After receiving the information, he said the NCRPO operatives planned out a rescue mission to recover the victim and arrest the perpetrators in two locations in Pasay City,” said Aberin.
During the operation, the suspects, aboard a vehicle, attempted to flee which resulted in a police pursuit. One suspect was immediately arrested while his companions were able to escape.
During the suspects’ escape, their vehicle hit and injured a 27-year-old motorcycle rider who was later declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
A follow-up operation at a condominium near a mall complex in Pasay City led to the arrest of another suspect and the confiscation of 152.4 grams of suspected shabu worth P761,000 along with a .38-caliber revolver loaded with six live rounds.
The arrested suspects are now detained at the Pasay City Police Station’s Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) for the filing of appropriate complaints.
The confiscated drugs and firearms were turned over to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination. (Aaron Recuenco)
