Carl Tamayo tallied his fifth straight double-digit scores and the Changwon LG Sakers stunned the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 84-81, in overtime for their third straight win in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Friday, March 14.
Trailing by nine, 72-81, with under a minute left in the extended frame, the LG Sakers suddenly exploded while forcing the Phoebus to multiple turnovers to complete their remarkable comeback.
While Tamayo came up with another stellar showing – he also had 8 rebounds and 3 assists – the night belonged to Assem Marei.
Like a thief in the night, the Egyptian came up with a crucial steal before delivering the coup d’ grace – a dagger trey – that broke the heart of the Phoebus.
Marei finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in a solid all-around game.
Jeong In-Deok and Yu Ki-Sang contributed 10 points apiece as the LG Sakers improved their card to 28-16 at second place.
Meanwhile, Choi Sung-Won and Fi-Am Ethan Alvano connived as the Wonju DB Promy upset the league-leading Seoul SK Knights, 88-80, to snap their three-game slide.
Sung-Won chalked u[ 27 points while Alvano backed him up with 23, boosting the Promy’s slate to 20-25 at sixth and giving the Knights their ninth defeat against 34 victories.
