De La Salle continued its winning way by sweeping Far Eastern University, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball on Saturday, March 15, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fresh from her career-high 25 points, Shevana Laput replicated her stellar performance by erupting for 22 points on 18 kills, three blocks and one ace to power the Lady Spikers to their fourth consecutive victory.
“Happy ako kasi kahit hindi kami ga’no magpahinga… atleast ‘yong short time na ‘yon nagawa nila ‘yong gameplan namin,” said La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus.
The win hiked La Salle to 5-2 and put them behind unbeaten National University (6-0) and University of Santo Tomas (5-1)
Angel Canino also contributed 10 points with seven digs and eight receptions while Alleiah Malaluan pumped in 12 points for the Taft-based squad, even as Mikole Reyes posted 20 excellent sets.
Faida Bakanke and Gerz Petallo were limited to single digits with nine and seven points as the Lady
Tamaraws absorbed their third loss against four wins.
Meanwhile, Ateneo showed poise and survived the gritty University of the East, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13 , to snap its three-game skid.
Despite missing key players, the Blue Eagles held their composure particularly in the pivotal fifth set with AC Miner and Lyann De Guzman delivered timely kills that helped them seal the win.
The win hiked Ateneo’s record to 2-5 while dealing UE its seventh straight defeat in as many games.
De Guzman stole the spotlight for the Blue Eagles by posting 17 points on 16 attacks and one block, while Miner pumped in 23 points along with seven excellent digs.
Zey Pacia also starred for Ateneo with a league-best 17 points apart from 14 digs and 10 receptions.
Nessa Cepada had her breakthrough showing for UE after tallying all her 24 points on attacks, even as Khy Cepada added 10 points, but their efforts went futile.
