The University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas finally ended a long and agonizing wait by winning the NCAA Season 100 Tennis Championship on Tuesday, March 25, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court in Vito Cruz, Manila.
The title win came after 30 years of missed opportunities and heartaches but it was worth the wait. So sweet.
Winning their matches for Perpetual were Sherwin Nuguit in singles and Lance Maglaqui and Karl Roi Ricamara in doubles – victories enough to wrap the title.
The last time Perpetual won a championship was in 1995 when coach Samuel Nuguit was still a young player. The team was then handled by Pete Custodio.
Other members of the victorious team are Kale Cyd Villamar, Jor Rodolfo and Shan Jette Ricamara.
“Finally nakuha sa tiyaga, nag-champion din. They deserved naman this, before sila umakyat sa college eh, nakapag-champion muna sila Sherwin, Lance Manglaqui at Karl Villamar,” said the elder Nuguit.
Perpetual also sent its men’s team to the finals after beating the Cardinals in the semis.
Members of the Altas Acers are Samuel Reane Nuguit, Shant Raven B. Nuguit, Al Kent Balazo and Chad Wayne Cantiga.
In the finals, they will face the CSB Blazers on Friday, March 29, also at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.
