Whatever it takes, Barangay Ginebra will do everything humanely possible to complete its revenge tour as the Kings go for the clincher against TNT in Game 6 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Wednesday, March 26.
The Kings have not held any PBA title since the 2022-’23 Commissioner’s Cup although they came close to achieving it twice only to fall to the hands of the Tropang Giga on both occasions.
Now Ginebra has the chance to flip the script and get some measure of vengeance against TNT should it pick up the victory at the end of the clash that tips-off at 7:30 p.m.
And no doubt, the most consistent player in Ginebra uniform all-series long, Scottie Thompson vowed to give everything he got just to try and finish the series right there and then in Game 6.
“Just truly inspired sa mga fans ( on consistency in the Finals). Tagal na rin namin hindi nakakuha ng championship. So, I just want to give my all for this championship. Whatever it takes,” said Thompson.
Of course, Thompson was under no illusion that the TNT would just roll over, die, and allow them to easily raise the trophy. That’s why the one-time league MVP wants the rest of the team to have tunnel vision and just focus on the task at hand.
“We have to focus on just one game, no past, no future for us. We just focus sa game na yun. The closeout in a series is the hardest game,” he added.
Justin Brownlee, who continued to amaze everyone after playing through in pain the past two games with a dislocated thumb, echoed Thompson’s views, knowing full well that the Tropang Giga still have the tools to strike back and drag the series to a winner-take-all Game 7.
“We will come and try with all our might (to clinch it),” said Brownlee.
“TNT is a great team as the past has shown. They beat us two times in the finals so we know it’s not going to be easy. The hardest game in my opinion and in my experience is the closeout game,” he added.
The Tropang Giga, who reportedly took a break to cool down and contemplate after things got fiery and emotional on their bench last time out, is hoping to pull themselves together for one more push.
