Former TV host and newscaster Erwin Tulfo has come a long way.
Starting his career as writer and columnist, going on to become among familiar faces on TV to eventually becoming Deputy Majority Leader of the Philippine House of Representatives, he is now gunning for a Senate seat.
As par per course, this has received mixed reaction.
Many are balking at the idea of having him along with brothers Raffy and Ben at the Senate.
The three are known to be hard-hitters, ready to take on all comers as made obvious in their past TV shows.
Asked about it, he said simply, “It’s really up to the voters.”
Running under Lakas, the senatorial aspirant made clear what made him decide to run, and that is to better the lives of the marginalized.
First off, he wants to review laws and government regulations in the face of skyrocketing prices of food and farm products.
He said, “Everybody is experiencing the high cost of living. Kailangan na pong gawan ng paraan. Kailangan po siguro balikan ng Senado, ng Kongreso ang mga batas na ito.”
Agriculture is a major sector of the Philippine economy, ranking third among the sectors in 2022 behind only services and industry.
As of 2022, the sector employs 24% of the Filipino workforce, and accounts for 8.9% of the total gross domestic product (GDP).
Tulfo believes the four sub sectors of agriculture (farming, fisheries, livestock, and forestry), need every help they can get, especially in the face of growing population.
Tulfo made these statements at the first State of the District Address (SODA) of Quezon City First District Representative Juan Carlos ‘Arjo’ Atayde.
There, he congratulated Both Rep. Atayde and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte for making their city progressive and for always being there for their constituents in times of uncertainties.
He also encouraged those present to pray for unity and progress.
“May problema pong pinagdadaanan ang ating bayan. Alam nyo ho naman ito kung ano,” Tulfo said.
“Ang pakiusap ko lang po muna, ipanalangin po natin ang ating mga lider ngayon at noon, na bigyan sila ng malakas na pangangatawan, malampasan ang mga pagsubok na kanilang dinaraanan ngayon, at ipagdasal po natin ang ating bayan na muling magkaisa.”
