LAS PIÑAS CITY – Before their adoring fans, the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas persevered and prevailed over the Letran Lady Knights in the NCAA Season 100 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the home of the Altas gym on Thursday, April 3, in Barangay Pamplona III here.
Drawing just enough firepower from Winnie Bedaña, the Lady Altas pulled off a pulsating 23-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-22, 15-13 win and got back on top of the standings with a 7-1 mark.
Bedaña, topscored for the Lady Altas with 18 points on 13 in attacks, 4 blocks and a service ace to lead the Lady Altas to a stirring come-from-behind win much to the delight of the home crowd.
The loss pulled the Lady Knights to third at 6-2 while the CSB Lady Blazers remained at second with a 7-2 mark.
Bedana was joined in the hard-fought win by Shaila Omipon who contributed 17 points, all of which came from attacks and 17 excellent receptions while rookie Jemalyn Menor had 14 on 10 attacks and 4 blocks.
Setter Fianne Ariola recorded 25 excellent sets in 152 attempts apart from 17 digs. Libero Marian Andal recorded 18 digs and 17 excellent receptions for the home team.
Three Lady Knights recorded double digits with Marie Nitura scoring 18 points while Gia Maquilang and Sheena Sarie adding 16 and 15 points, respectively.
The Mapua Cardinals, meanwhile, stayed undefeated after eight games after downing the CSB Blazers, 25-17, 21-25, 28-26, 26-24.
Power hitter Barbie San Andres tallied a game-high 27 points on 21 attacks, 2 blocks, and 4 aces.
The Lady Cardinals also beat defending champion Lady Blazers, 25-20, 11-25, 27-25, 25 -21. Alyanna Ong led the way for Mapúa with a team-high 14 points on 12 attacks and 2 blocks.
