Kevin Quiambao dazzled in the pivotal moments to help power the Goyang Sono Skygunners to an 86-70 victory over the Wonju DB Promy in the Korean Basketball League on Friday, April 4.
Protecting a slim 68-66 lead midway through fourth quarter, Quiambao rose to the occasion and spearheaded an 18-4 blitz that neutralized Fil-Am Ethan Alvano and the Promy to snap their four-game slide.
Quiambao, a two-time UAAP MVP, finished with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 35 minutes of play — his 18th game of finishing in double figures since joining the league early this year.
Alan Williams backed Quiambao with a double-double effort of 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Lee Keun Jun and Lee Jong-Hyun added 15 points apiece for the Skygunners, who improved to 17-35 at ninth place.
It also marked Goyang’s fourth straight win over Wonju this season.
Alvano, last year’s MVP, finished with 20 points, two rebounds, six assists and five steals while Park In-Woong and Omari Spellman had 15 and 12 points, respectively, in a losing cause for Promy, who absorbed their 30th defeat against 22 wins to remain at seventh.
Meanwhile, Justin Gutang put up 18 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals to anchor the Seoul Samsung Thunders past the Busan KCC Egis, 91-83.
The win not only boosted the Thunders to a 16-36 mark but also ended their six-game losing streak.
