Far Eastern University hopes to clinch a playoff for the last semis berth when it battles the dangerous Adamson in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, April 12, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Having won their last two games, the Lady Tamaraws are slightly favored against the Shai Nitura-led Lady Falcons in their 3 p.m. showdown in a game the Morayta-based squad can’t afford to lose.
The Lady Falcons, for one, have been emboldened by their dramatic win over early qualifier National University – thanks to another explosive performance from Nitura.
Nitura needs to put up another herculean effort if she wants the Lady Falcons (4-7) to keep their slim semis bid alive. Another defeat would mean goodbye to their semis homes.
With an 8-4 mark, the Lady Tamaraws have a good chance of joining NU (10-2) in the Final Four which could be completed before the Lenten break next week.
One thing going for FEU is that it is enjoying a big psychological advantage over Adamson whom it beat in four sets (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-10) last March 8.
Also out to boost its own semis bid is University of Santo Tomas battles winless University of the East at 1 p.m.
The Golden Tigresses are sporting a 7-4 card and need to win their last three games to avoid any complication.
Also in the running for a semis berth are La Salle (8-3) and University of the Philippines (5-6) – two teams clashing on Sunday.
In men’s play, UE tries to nail its first win against UST at 9 a.m., while Adamson challenges league-leading FEU at 11 a.m.
