Many have been wondering about Maymay Entrata’s seemingly all-too inconsistent showbiz forays of late.
She is hardly seen on TV, never mind the big screen. And, if ever, her appearances are brief.
Why?
We caught up with the 27-year-old singer-actress-model recently and here’s what she told us.
“May malaking reason po kung bakit,” she began. “Hindi ko alam kung paano ko sasabihin…pero kasi ang totoo, may pinagdadaanan po kasi ang aming pamilya.”
Maymay would go on to reveal that her mom and grandmother (who both raised her) are both dealing with medical conditions.
Getting teary-eyed, she related, “Andito ako sa point na hangga’t may oras ako na makapiling ko yung dalawang nanay ko, gagawin ko—palipad-lipad man ako sa Cagayan de Oro o Japan, paulit-ulit gagawin ko po. Sobrang mahal na mahal ko po sila.”
“Yun yung dahilan kung bakit on and off ako sa showbiz nitong mga nakaraang taon.”
Noting how she seemingly looks cheerful despite the same, Maymay said, “I try. Salamat talaga sa Panginoon na kahit paano, kinakaya ko. Kailangan din kasi po e. Hindi ko po afford na magmukmok sa sulok. Kailangan tuloy ang laban.”
Having made a remarkable transition from being PBB’s Big Winner to a full-fledged star, Maymay’s authenticity have won the hearts of fans.
Aside from acting and hosting, Maymay has ventured into music. Her debut single, released in 2017, “Toinks,” has garnered impressive reviews, and she is notably known as the Amakabogera herself because of the hit song of the same title.
Most recently, Maymay was handpicked to sing “Nasaan ang Hiling?” the Filipino version of the theme song for “Snow White.”
Maymay shared that the journey wasn’t easy and emphasized how much her vocal coach helped her achieve the theatrical feel of the song.
She expressed gratitude for the experience.
Talking about how she felt upon learning about the news, she shared: “Una, nung sinabi sa’kin, talagang hindi ako makapaniwala. Hindi nagsi-sink in sa’kin. Tapos pangalawa, sabi ko, ‘Magiging princess ako?!’ And knowing Disney, alam natin lahat ‘yan—lahat ng mga Disney princesses, very timeless ‘yung story nila. And for me to be a part of it… talagang dream come true talaga sa’kin. Tsaka si Snow White diba? Siya talaga ang OG Disney Princess.”
Beyond that, Maymay also has an upcoming Netflix mini-series “Happy Crush.”
She is also putting the finishing touches on a new album titled “Reborn.”
“Yung title na ‘Reborn’ hindi lang siya basta title, parang ‘remember me’ ba doon sa darkest moments na pinagdaanan ko, na kaya ko pa rin pala bumangon despite all of that, kaya ko pa rin pala mabuo ulit yung sarili ko. Pinili ko siya bilang symbol ng aking journey. It’s all about finding strength despite the pain.”
Featuring her latest single, “Paradise,” among others, the album, a collaboration with US-based songwriters, marks the beginning of her plans to expand her music career internationally.
