Two inmates, one of them a former policeman with a murder case, were arrested along with two others, including a jail guard, after leaving the Bulacan Provincial Jail for an unauthorized trip on Sunday, April 13, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported on Wednesday, April 16.

“This is a remarkable intelligence-driven operation. With this arrest, we significantly removed from the streets two dangerous prisoners with firearms, a rogue jail guard, and an accomplice,” said CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III Torre following a successful operation.

The CIDG launched the operation after receiving reports that two inmates allegedly enjoyed special treatment and were allowed to leave and escape the facility on board different vehicles, even without court orders.

Torre said the main subject of the operation, a certain Abdua, is a former member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and now heads the inmates as “mayor” after he was dismissed from the service and detained for a case of murder.

Also arrested were a certain Mario, a member of a prison gang tagged as the “Chairman of  Barangay 11” of the prison facility; a certainTee-Jay, jail guard of Bulacan Provincial Jail; and Sarah, the wife of the Abdua.

They would leave and return to the provincial jail within the given period, allegedly allowed and escorted by the jail guard and assisted by Sarah.

On Sunday, CIDG operatives monitored the four leaving the Bulacan Provincial Jail on board a red Toyota-Hi-Lux pick-up.

They were later collared going to the house of Sarah in Malolos City, or more or less five kilometers away from the provincial jail facility.

Torre said seized during the operation were a .45-caliber pistol, a Glock 17 9mm pistol, magazines, rounds of live ammunition and the vehicle used in the escape — the red Toyota Hilux pick-up.

“All of them defied the law, committed crimes, and disrespected the court’s judicial authority for leaving and consented the escape of the duo in the detention facility, respectively, without court order,” he added.

Torre said they are now conducting an investigation to identify the people behind the special treatment and if all of them are involved in illegal activities. (Aaron Recuenco)
